Aldi's Location

Aldi which is short for Albrecht Discount is supermarket that is based in Germany. Aldi is a discount grocery store. It is more of an off brand store. In Fayetteville, NC where I am from the Aldi stores we have are not located near other grocery stores. I feel this is a great advantage for them because the competition level for the area is left to be undefeated. Another advantage of Aldi's location is that they have more parking space for the store itself as for other grocery stores usually have to share a parking lot with alot of retailers or services.

Aldi's location also has its disadvantages. Even though being away from other grocery stores and other retailers is nice it can have its disadvantage. Because in this location Aldi stands alone most people will choose to go to a grocery store surrounded by a whole lot of retailers where they can accomplish alot of goals in one area instead of driving from place to place. Another disadvantage is that Aldi is located on this busy road. This road is very known for its terrible traffic and its numerous car accidents. This road would not be safe for pedestrians to cross the street back and forth at any time of the day. Also Aldi's is located on the side of the road where its hard for cars to manuever to the other side of the road due to the oncoming traffic of both directions. This gives drivers only one way to manuever or drive.

I do believe that I think it is good for Aldi to stand alone which gives them more business. However, I think the locations for Aldis' should be often reconsidered. I think they should investigate the traffic and how busy the road is. I would not suggest it be in the middle of nowhere but I would suggest that it be in a reasonable location where drivers have an easier way of manuevering throughout traffic. Also a location where pedistrians are welcome would be great.

Circuit City

Among the many stores that are closing, Circuit City is closing. In my opinion Circuit City stores are closing because our economy is in a recession. Over 150 stores are currently planning on closing. They are saying that everything must go. Circuit City filed bankruptcy. Our economy is experiencing unemployment problems which causes there to be a decline in sales at stores like Circuit City. Since our economy is in a recession people no longer have money to buy things like expensive such as their available electronics.
As a result, ..It’s amazing how one day Circuit City could be second-largest U.S. electronics retailer then the next be filing for bankruptcy. Some people agree that Circuit City overcharges their customers anyways. Some people can see why Circuit City is going out of business while others dread the fact that their favorite electronics store is going out of business. Circuit City is scheduled to close March 8, 2009.

VALS SURVEY

My results for the Vals survey was an experiencer and then secondary being a striver. I do believe my results are accurate. Reason being ive always worked just to be able to stay updated on the latest trends and electronics. I also do strive for excitement and new things in my life. I do also agree with my secondary type of being a striver. Growing up I was very much influenced on opinion and approval of others. I do disagree with the whole job and career statement. My finances do however affect my shopping habits.
I do not think the results have anything to do with the target market person for rei. we concluded that our person actually is very interested in camping, fishing and hunting. none of these things are influenced by the results i recieved except they do strive for exciting things in life. I dont think the person in this target market would spend most of their allowance on shopping or trying to buy the latest electronics.

Kohl's Expansion.

Kohls is one of the largest "discount" department stores in the United States. Kohls was founded in 1962, in Milwaukee Wisconsin by the Kohl family. The purpose of Kohls was to appeal to the audience as value-oriented. Kohls goal was achieved successfully because Kohls provide fashionable apparel at a discount price. Kohls then recieved a reputation for good value, attactive stores, with a wide selection of choices for the customer.
In 1978, Kohl was adopted by the Batus Retail Group (British-American Tobacco Company). This made Kohls expand from 10 to 39 throughout the states Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois. Kohls is the fifth-largest discount and the 23-largest retailer in the United States. Today, Kohls sales exceed 14 billion. Kohls now has 800 stores. By the year 2010, Kohls goal is to have approximately 1200 stores.

my favorite retailer.

my favorite retailer is kohls. i shop there often. kohls' is an american department store. kohls mission is to be the leading value-oriented, family focused, specialty department store. kohls is the fifth largest discount store. i define that as being succesful.
kohls attracts me more than most department stores because the visual appearance is outstanding. the atmosphere of the location is clean and calm. i never had a bad experience with customer service there. if anytime i ever needed help with anything there was always an employee in every department and easy to locate them. they are always willing to help their customers.
i love kohls variety of selection. they feature brand-named, private and exclusive brands. they have everything from apparel to basic home furnishings. anything that is unavailable at the local store is always easy to locate on their online website. their prices are affordable ; they have constant sales and always have a big clearence selection.
in conclusion my five reasons for kohls being my favorite retailer is that they have a wide variety of selection , pricing is affordable, they have great customer service and they have expanded over the years and is successful along with a great visual appearence.
